Bonebandit's Junk in My Trunk

2-15-2000 to 11-26-2006

Zoey became a Bone Bandit on March 23, 2003.  Her Auntie Robyne met her a month later and told her she had "junk in her trunk" when Zoey wiggled her excited greeting.  The title stuck.

For her first portrait, I wanted something special to display her personality.  The chenille boa and pearls just seemed to suit her.

And though I wait for thee a thousand years
Through waiting will I love thee yet the more
And though I fill an ocean with my tears
My joy will thus be greater than before
And this my prayer for evermore will be
That in the end thou wilt come back to me.

Zoey was born on February 15, 2000.  She was a very cute puppy and I nearly always find myself wishing I'd had her from puppyhood.

The first picture I saw of her stole my heart... I saw both Logan and Phoebe in her and had to have her.

Or maybe I fell in love with her freckles.  She is bringing  redheads with freckles back into style.

Her first public appearance with me was Bullyfest 2003 where she lost her heart to Chopper.

Zoey celebrated Bandana Day in honor of bullie friends who have made their journey to Rainbow Bridge.

But being a girl of singular style, she does bandanas with a flair.  She thinks pink makes a girl look so feminine.

Although she was not as happy about the ears we added for Easter. . .

And then, of course, there was the inevitable Halloween costume.  She wants to be added to the Beedogs.com site.

It was not unusual to see Zoey and her kitty, Princess, snuggling together.

But when Robbie tries to chase Princess out of her bed, Zoey reminds him quickly whose kitty she is.

Zoey's sweetness was never so apparent than in the way she allowed Raquel to share her bed.  For some reason she sensed that Raquel, deaf and blind, needed her and willingly shared with her.  I think she missed Raquel almost as much as I do.

One of my biggest pleasures was just sitting on the couch with Zoey in my lap.  She sometimes stared at me with her big brown eyes, sometimes she found a favorite toy to sleep on.   For me, it was just one giant photo op.

Zoey's extensive alopecia  never interfered with her beauty.  When she first came to live with us, I thought I would be bothered by it.  But I got so used to it that it was just part of who she is.  I would completely forget about it until we went out and someone inevitably asked what happens to her.  I just told them that she couldn't decide between a leather or a fur coat, so she took a little of each.  And our friend and vet Dr. Nancy called it her fine Corinthian leather.

Zoey's death was unexpected and too soon.  She was treated with the most skillful and loving care at Windcrest Animal Hospital, but in typical bulldog fashion had let the disease progress to the end stages before giving me any hint that something was wrong.  Zoey is missed as much as she was loved and her memory will always be with us.  She was a magic girly girl with junk in her trunk.  I was grateful for the years I had with her.
